Photoshop AI
Sometimes you may want to use a picture you took with your phone on some of your works, (or just as a desktop wallpaper) but you find out that you took it in a vertical format and you need it in a landscape mode, or it could happen that you just need to balance the picture and you may need a few extra pixels here and there. There are several tools you can use to solve this and expand your image like "Infinite Image" by Runway, "Extend Image" (which uses Dalle and Stable Diffusion), "Image Extender" by Picsart and even Canva. But you can also make it with the latest version of Photoshop using the Generative Expand AI tool without using any other third party apps. So today, I will show you how easy is to expand any image in Photoshop using the Generative Expand AI included in Photoshop.
But before we begin, and if you want to follow this tutorial exactly as described, please download the following free image from Pexels: Download.
Open your image in Photoshop.
Select the Crop Tool (C).
In the top toolbar under "Fill" select "Generative Expand" from the dropdown menu.
Expand the crop area as you wish. In this case, I will simply expand the area to the left and right symmetrically by holding the "Alt" key on the keyboard.
With your crop area selected, click the "Commit current crop operation" icon in the top toolbar or just hit the "Enter" key on your keyboard.
After a few seconds, Photoshop will show you 3 different variations of the expanded image in the Properties Panel for you to choose from.
If none of the images meet your expectations, you can click on the "Generate" button in the Properties Panel, and Photoshop will give you another 3 variations.
Now simply choose any variation you like and you will have your expanded image ready to be used in any way you want.
Now that you know how to easily expand your images in Photoshop using the new Generative Expand AI tool, you may try to use it on any kind of images you want whenever you need to expand your image to match a new size ratio like in the following examples.
