Photoshop Text Effects
You probably saw all over the internet those captivating sprayed text effects used in many design works that add a dynamic and street-art vibe. At first sight, you may think that those kinds of effects take a long time to create, but they are actually simple and easy to complete. So today, I will show you how easily you can make a Sprayed Text Effect in Photoshop using only the default Photoshop tools, with special attention to the powerful Blur Gallery.
Open Photoshop and make a new file at any size you want. In this case I will make mine at 1800 x 1200 px with a dark textured background.
Select the Horizontal Type Tool (T) and type your text using any font you want. Here I will be using "Gotham Bold" with a simple letter just to show you better how the effect works.
With your text layer selected, go to Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object.
In the Layers Panel, set the Blending Mode to "Dissolve".
Go to Filter > Blur Gallery > Field Blur.
Click anywhere you want in the artboard to add a new field blur anchor point and set the blur amount to any value that you like. In this case, I will set mine to 50px.
Again, add a new anchor point anywhere you like and set any value you wish for the blur effect. Now, I will set my second point value to 70px.
Once you are happy with the results, click the OK button in the top toolbar.
With the text layer selected, go to Layer > Layer Style > Blending Options.
Drag the "Underlying Layer" dark slider to the right until you reach a value of about 20.
Lastly, and this step is optional, hold the "Alt" key on your keyboard to split the dark slider in 2, drag it to the right until you reach a value of 50 and click OK in the Layer Style window.
