Photoshop Photo Effects
From creating eye-catching posters to preparing graphics for social media, designing album covers, and crafting promotional materials, the noisy dotted duotone effect is extremely versatile and will give your designs a unique and professional visual appeal. It is an easy and quick way to transform your images into stunning works of art with a noisy dotted duotone style. This effect not only adds a unique texture to your images but also brings a touch of both retro and modern aesthetics. Today, I will show you how to make this effect in Photoshop in less than 5 minutes, with the ability to change the dot size, colors, and even the image after the effect is applied.
Open your image in Photoshop.
With your Background Layer selected, go to Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object.
Now go to Filter > Filter Gallery.
Under "Sketch" select the "Halftone Pattern" effect, apply the following settings and click OK.
Go to Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast. Increase the values to your liking aiming to get a bit more of brightness and contrast on your particular image and click OK. In this case a value of 50/30 seems to work just fine.
Go to Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Gradient Map.
Click on the gradient thumbnail to open the Gradient Editor.
Click on the first color stop (black) to select it. Set the Location at 15, click on the color thumbnail to open the Color Picker window and pick any color you want. In this case, I will set mine to #e65100.
Click on the second color stop (white) to select it. Set the Location at 75, click on the color thumbnail to open the Color Picker window and pick any color you want. In this case, I will set mine to #aae2ff. Then, click OK in the Gradient Editor window.
Make a new layer above the Gradient Map layer and fill it with white.
Go to Filter > Noise > Add Noise. Apply the following settings and click OK.
To finish the effect, set the layer blend mode to "Overlay".
Now that you know how you can make your own noisy dotted duotone effect, you may try with different halftone dots sizes editing the Smart Filter, gradient map colors, change the noise value and update your picture simply by editing the Smart Object layer without having to make the whole effect again like in the following examples.
