With the Propaganda Template for Photoshop you can instantly emulate a retro propaganda effect from any photo or graphic that you want. First replace the Main Image smart object with your own and the file will automatically transform it into a propaganda one; then replace the background image with your own to complete your design.

After updating the Smart Object, you can pick from 5 different paper textures, change the frame color and of course, change all the colors of your main image to your liking by updating a single gradient map. The included PSD file has a resolution of 300 dpi with a dimension of 4800 x 3200 px in RGB color mode perfect to be used on your digital designs.

Due the nature of this effect, the background will not be affected with the propaganda style since you may need different, or even more colors on your design and text.

How to update the Smart Objects:

  1. Open the "Propaganda Template.psd" file in Photoshop.
  2. Double click on any of the 2 red labelled "[Your Image/Background Here]" Smart Object layer thumbnails.
  3. Replace the sample artwork with your own content.
  4. Save and close the Smart Object.

How to change the colors:

  1. Double click on the thumbnail of the "[Change Gradient Map Color]" layer.
  2. In the Properties window, click on the gradient map thumbnail.
  3. Pick any color from the Color Picker window for each of the color stops in the Gradient Editor and click OK.

How to adjust the Threshold values:

  1. Expand the "Effects" layer group.
  2. Expand the Smart Filters of the Lights, Midtones or Shadows layers by clicking on the down arrow next to the layer's name.
  3. Double click on the "Threshold" effect.
  4. Adjust the value to your liking and click OK.

Tips for a better effect

  1. Be sure to have a good contrast on your subject picture.
  2. Cut your subject shape as sharp as you can, avoiding thin lines like hairs and flyouts.
  3. Having your subject isolated over a transparent background will give you a better end result.
