Illustrator Text Effects

Using effects on texts, will instantly make them more engaging and attention-grabbing. They can be applied to various design projects, from digital graphics to print materials, allowing for creative expression across different mediums also, it can convey a mood, theme, or message, enhancing the storytelling aspect of design projects. So today, I will show you how to easily make a bended paper text effect in Illustrator, in less than 5 minutes and using nothing but the default Illustrator tools.

Step 1

Open Illustrator and make a new file at any size you want. In this case, I will make mine at 1800 x 1200 px.

Step 2

For you to better see the effect, I will make a simple blue rectangle to be used as a background, but this is optional and you don't need to make it.

Step 3

Select the "Type Tool" (T) and using any font type your text. Here i will simply write "2024" using "Gobold Lowplus".

Step 4

With your text selected, go to Type > Create Outlines.

Step 5

Now go to Effect > 3D > Extrude and Bevel. Apply the following settings and click OK in the 3D Extrude & Bevel Options window.

Step 6

Go to Object > Expand Appearance.

Step 7

Go to Edit > Copy and then to Edit > Paste in Front.

Step 8

With the copied objects selected, apply any color you want. Here I will be using pure White.

Step 9

Go to Object > Envelope Distort > Make with Mesh.

Step 10

Set any number of Rows and Columns you want and click OK in the Envelope Mesh window (more rows and columns means more control).

Step 11

Lastly, select the "Direct Selection Tool" (A) and move any of the mesh points to deform the text until you are happy with the end result.
