How timely, I’d just been photographing a set of Christmas lights for this.

I know there’s a license to read, but really quickly (lazy): do we have permission to change the colours in Photoshop to suit our scheme?

Sure, you can definitely change the colors. The only basic requirements are that you cannot distribute or resell the set to multiple people (but a project for one client is okay), and if you are using the free license (aka, you aren’t a member) then you need to include some form of attribution to MediaLoot.
