How to Make a Snack Text Style in Photoshop

Photoshop Layer Styles

In Photoshop, you can get pretty much any look, pretty much any way. For me, there is one method that stands out above all others and, if used correctly, can save you a lot of design time. The Layer Style Panel is one of the most powerful features that Photoshop has. Obviously, sometimes it's not possible to make a whole graphic style using only the Layer Styles panel, but for this tutorial, it's perfect. Today, I will show you how easily you can make a Snack Text Style in Photoshop using only the Layer Styles Panel adding a few more effects inside the panel to achieve the style we want.

But before we begin, and if you want to follow this tutorial exactly as described, please download the following free font from Dafont: Download

Step 1

Open Photoshop and make a new file at any size you want. In this case, and for demostration purposes only, I will make mine at 900 x 600 px with the Background color set to #006ec6.

Step 2

Select the Horizontal Type Tool (T) and type your text using any font and colors that you want. I will simply type "Yeah!" using the Backpack font at 350pt with a combination of blue and red colors.

Step 3

With the text layer selected, go to Layer > Layer Style > Bevel & Emboss and apply the following settings.
Note: be sure to select the "Cove Deep" contour from the Contour Picker in the Gloss Contour option.

Step 4

Check the Contour option. From the Contour Picker select the "Cone" and set the range to about 45%.

Step 5

Check the Stroke option and apply the following settings.

Step 6

Click the "+" sign in the Stroke option to add a new Stroke instance and apply the following settings.

Step 7

Now, check the Outer Glow option and apply the following settings.

Step 8

Check the Drop Shadow effect and apply the following settings.

Step 9

Lastly, click the "+" sign in the Drop Shadow effect to add a new Drop Shadow instance and apply the following settings.

Step 10

Before closing the Layer Style window, a good idea is to save the recently created style for a future use. To do that, click on the "New Style" button, give your style a name and click OK.

Step 11

Now, with the layer style saved, simply click OK in the Layer Style window.

Some Final Notes

As we save it our new layer style for a future use, you can now easily access the style and use it over any other text or shape layer that you want. Simply select the layer that you want to apply the effect to and from the Styles Panel (Window > Styles) select the recently create Snack Style.
