Making a line text/graphic effect can look like a very difficult task in Illustrator, but in fact it is very easy! And you can create a wide range of lines effects just by changing the Stroke weight or profile even after you finish the effect. There are, of course, different methods to make line text graphics, but today I will show you a very effective method you can use that is easy and quick to replicate. This method will let you change the line effect even after the effect is made, so you can try many different variations.
Open Illustrator and make a new file at any size you want. In this case, I will set mine at 1800px x 1200px.
Select the Rectangle Tool (M) and draw a rectangle covering the whole canvas area using a black fill color.
Go to Window Layers and click right rext to the eye icon to lock the layer.
Still in the Layers panel, click on the "Create New Layer" icon.
Select the Type Tool (T) and type any text you want. In this case, I will simply type the letter "O" to show you how this effects works in a more friendly way.
With your text selected go to Type > Create Outlines.
Select the Line Segment Tool and draw a line from top to bottom with the stroke Weight set to 12pt.
Copy and paste the line multiple times over the artboard as shown.
Go to Select > All and then to Edit > Copy.
In the Layers panel click on the "Create New Layer" icon.
Go to Edit > Paste in Place.
Hide the "Layer 3" by clicking on the eye icon in the Layers panel.
Go to Select > All and then select the Shape Builder Tool (Shift+M).
Hold the Alt key on your keyboard and drag over the letter to delete all elements inside as shown.
In the Layers panel, hide the Layer 2 and make the Layer 3 visible by clicking on the eye icon next to the layer's name.
Go to Select > All and then select the Shape Builder Tool (Shift+M).
Hold the Alt key on your keyboard and drag over all the lines outside the letter to delete all elements as shown.
Select the letter shape and delete it.
In the Layers panel, make the Layer 2 visible again by clicking on the eye icon next to the layer's name.
Go to Select > All. Be sure to have the Stroke selected in the Tools panel and click on the Gradient icon.
Go to Window > Gradient and set the gradient angle to 90ยบ using any colors you want.
Lastly, go to Window > Stroke and under "Profile" select "Width Profile 5".
Now you know how easily you can make a line text/graphic effect in Illustrator, you may experiment by changing the Stroke Weight, Caps and Profile to get even more interesting lines effects. And, of course, you can play with the Gradient colors for the inner and outer lines.
