Designers know how important it is to post and maintain a portfolio somewhere on the web, especially if you're a freelance designer. Having a corner of the internet carved out to display your best work is a great way to be discoverable by potential clients and peers, even as you sleep.
While it's a great idea to create a self-standing portfolio because it will allow you the most flexibility to share your style and mission, it's also important to network with other designers and stay relevant on community design sites.
Most basically, Dribbble is an invite-only community and is great for multi-contributors or teams. It's streamlined and you can post jobs and mark yourself as for hire. The items a designer posts can be a process shot or the final project, and other community members can like and comment on your work. Dribbble's tagline is: "What are you working on?"
On the other hand, anyone can join Behance and their range of design and artistry categories is much more broad. Community members can Appreciate and comment on the work of others. Behance's tagline is: "Showcase and discover the latest work from top online portfolios by creative professionals across industries."
There are pros and cons to each community.
What do you use, and why? Do you exclusively use Dribbble, or are you exclusively using Behance? Or, do you use both? Discuss!
